December 18, 2025 Meeting

Agenda

Commissioner David Murphy chaired the meeting

Approval of minutes of Nov. 3rd meeting: approved.

Requests:

  • Fore River Clubhouse:  Dec. 13th   Birthday Party:  Approved

  • Ruth Gordon Amphitheater:  May 30th or 31st:  QHS School Choir:  Approved

  • Joseph Koch Field:  Boston Chinese Neighborhood Assn June 20th, for family Fun Day.  Approved.

 Old Business:

    • Early Intervention Building / Squaw Rock.

    • Mass tribe has been working to create a new statue of Chickatawbut; Nationally known sculptor is working on it.  Had worked with DCR to place the statue on Hummarock; but DCR had issues with the location.  Now looking at city property.  Once location being considered (but no decision made) is the area where Nickerson Post and Early Intervention are.  Thinking about can the Early Intervention be relocated to Della Chiesa center.  This is conceptual.  Not at a place where votes or anything needs to happen

    • One consideration:  Squaw rock is not a very visible location for the statue.  It might be good for the museum and building.

    • DCR:  had concerns about parking and chapter 91 (environmental) permitting and what their role is in maintaining the statue.

      Commissioners Report:

      • Connie Driscoll:  Is the Rec Board’s liaison to CPC and wants step down from that.  Would like to replace Connie with Tom O’Brien on Community Preservation Commission.

      • Parade/tree lighting / Santa arriving by helicopter.  Recreation Dept and Chris Rooney and his staff do an incredible job.

      • Past weekend: lots of neighborhood tree lighting.

      • Wrapping up heritage tree program;  picked Oak and Elms with the idea they will be around for Quincy 500.

      • Faxon pickleball courts are getting tremendous use.  Shade structures will be coming in next year, due to manufacturers delay.

Next meeting:  Jan. 5th @ 5:30
