Executive Director’s Report
ILS (software used for book checkout; catalog) software will change to Evergreen in April. Same system has been in place since 1997, and is no longer supported by the manufacturer. The catalog interface will be changing. Borrowing history will be available however, you will see changes there. Will not need new library cards.
Congratulations to Taylor Devlin (Technology Director) for updating email systems; redoing the web pages, and securing a grant for the Library.
Had some staff movement. Gina DiPietro is retiring after 30 years.
Union negotiations are continuing.
Exploratory roof work on Richardson was completed. Will be costly to repair. But seems like the City is willing to make it happen.
North Quincy Branch Library is opening on Friday (1:00 to 5:00 PM). NQ is 11th busiest library in the state, despite being open only 35 hours a week.
Keep Quincy warm initiative: all the coats have been distributed. Need boots, sweatpants, snow pants, scarves, hats, gloves. Interfaith Social Services will start bringing things over on Mondays.
Director Slymon (in her role as President of Mass Library Association) is going on a listening tour as to why people are not members of MLA. Only has 800 members and there are hundreds of libraries and research libraries that are not members.
Library partners also with More than Words that partners with youth and does workforce development and leadership training.
Friend’s Report
Doing well as per usual. Now have a person who works in the bookstore who speaks Chinese.
Tote bag sales are going well. Ebay sales are going well (partner with an Ebay consultant who reviews the donations; Friends get half of proceeds).
Treasurer’s Report : No update as Treasure was absent.
Old Business
• Staff Appreciation Party planning going well.
New Business
Borrowing process: there is a line that is not in line with OCL policy, so making an adjustment. Removes the cap on limit on number of items people can borrow. No concerns raised about the change.
