Commissioner’s Report:
Faxon Park:
Pickleball courts in and in use. Won't be the last pickleball courts installed.
Tower hill:
Recent site of Environmental Treasures. Have done a lot of plantings and trees. Has some help from the neighborhood in keeping it clean.
Heritage Parks:
West and Center streets are "heritage" tree parks. Parks being built as part of Quincy 400. Each will highlight a piece of the City's history.
Next two heritage parks: Burke property (on Southern Artery) and 111 Newbury Ave. (old fire station).
Using in house people to both design and build these parks.
Ropes course:
Approved by CBC and Council. Matt Lowe ran them as part of Bellotti camp. Years ago, it was proposed to use Mound Street location; looked at all 54 park locations, and decided Mound Street remains the best choice. The soccer fields on Mound Street are not being used regularly. Will be a public process. Met with Project Adventure (builds ropes courses throughout New England) and will write up a RFP.
School updates:
Dave Murphy will be before the School Committee on Park and Rec activities.
Question: Are there any plans for hard surface volleyball courts? The sand courts are in use. Some people don't want to play on the sand; but set up nets on grass. Should look into setting up some grass courts; the middle school growth of volleyball is incredible, and there are strong teams on both high schools.
Next board meeting 10/5/25.
