Why do you believe you are the best candidate to represent Quincy residents at this time?
Voters should elect me to office I seek because I have the most experience as a current city councilor with ten years’ experience. I have taken a leadership role as the Quincy Council President in 2022 and 2023. I have been a part of the transformation of the downtown Quincy Center and the inception of the Hancock Adams Common, where residents are able to enjoy the many concerts and events throughout the year. I have been advocating and helping residents with quality-of-life safety issues including traffic, sidewalks, roads, pot holes, proper signage, trees and trash pickups. I'm always available and approachable. I offer Office Hours to allow residents an opportunity to speak to me one on one.
What three issues are you most concerned about, and if elected, how will you address them?
My top priorities will be affordability, fighting against over development, mitigation of traffic and parking. I recently attended the neighborhood meeting for the proposal of 321 units at 42 Beale St./16 Old Colony Ave. This developer only proposed 322 parking spaces with no affordable housing units for an eight-story building. I spoke publicly against the project, stating that it was too dense in size with too many units and not enough parking. I advocated a new proposal to include affordable housing and workforce housing. I spoke about the traffic concerns that not only affect that area but across the city of Quincy. I voiced my concerns about current flooding issues and what mitigation methods they are looking to install for future use of that site.
Many residents reached out to me before the meeting and voiced their concerns against the project. I agreed with the residents and gathered their information. I attended the meeting, spoke publicly against the project and included the residents issues to the developer. If elected, I will continue to advocate for the residents with affordability, over development issues, traffic concerns and availability of parking.
If elected, what steps will you take to ensure responsiveness and clear communication between you and the Quincy community?
I offer office hours to allow residents the opportunity to meet one on one throughout my tenure of being a city-wide councilor. I make myself available with an open-door policy. Whether I'm at a concert at the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater, coaching a little league baseball game or at a neighborhood community meeting, you are always welcome to approach me and talk. If you have any issues, needs or questions, you can always call or text my cell at 617-448-8830.
I have three children that currently attend the Quincy Public Schools at three different schools, Merrymount, Squantum and Broad Meadows. I not only represent you on the city council but have been involved with QPS since being a former Quincy school committee member in 2014 and 2015. Our schools get the largest allocation of funding in our city budget. I have experience with working with students, parents, principals and staff and ultimately understand the school budget. You can count on me to be involved in QPS school events and extracurricular activities, as well as being your Councilor At-Large..
What do you plan to do about Quincy’s $1.6 billion debt?
Make sure the funding is allocated to the right bonds. The majority of the funding is in the Pension Bond at a 2.6% interest and in the Downtown Development, which in time will pay for itself.
What do you think is the most important role of being a City Councillor?
Availability, communication, listening, asking questions
What will you do to increase civic participation and voter turnout in Quincy?
Door knocking, social media and Get Out The Vote campaign
Will you advocate for the City Council to allow the opportunity for public comment at every City Council meeting?
The candidate did not answer this question.
