Why do you believe you are the best candidate to represent QPS families at this time?
My experience as a guidance counselor, working with students, families, teachers and staff for thirty years at all grade levels and across disciplines will be a huge asset to the Quincy School Committee. I know what works well in schools, and I know there are things needing improvement. My three children have also attended Quincy Public Schools, bringing me twenty years of experience with Quincy Schools as well. I have strong ties to the community, and want to use my experience to actively improve our schools.
What school and/or community activities do you participate in?
For may years I participated in PTO and PAC meetings with my children's schools. My husband and I founded and ran Wollaston T Ball. I've served as a Board Member of Manet Community Health Center. I'm an active member of Divine Mercy Parish, Friends of Wollaston Beach, Houghs Neck Book Club, Friends of Ruth Gordon Amphitheater, and play hockey with the Quincy Clams. I'm also an active MTA union member.
What do you believe is the purpose of public education?
The purpose of public education is to produce happy, healthy, independent members of society. I valued the education and opportunities that public education provided to my family and I. I want to ensure that Quincy provides a safe, nurturing learning environment, so that students can take advantage of the education and opportunities that Quincy Public Schools provides.
If elected, what will your top three priorities be for the Quincy Public Schools, and how will you implement them?
Cell phones are part of our daily life, but they can be an interruption to learning. I believe a cell phone policy that eliminates that distraction from students would be very helpful to the learning environment.
Artificial Intelligence is technology that is fast becoming part of our lives also. We want to make sure students know how to use AI to supplement their work, not to replace their work. They need to develop critical thinking, reasoning, communication skills, and learn problem solving skills and coping mechanisms while working with each other. We need strong guidelines and tools to help teachers and students with this.
A student's first years form the critical foundation of their education. I would support further grant applications for more CPPI funds with regard to access to universal preschool in Quincy.
If elected, what steps will you take to ensure responsiveness and clear communication between you and the Quincy community?
As a guidance counselor, a daily part of my job is communicating with families and teachers. I will continue that practice in the role with the school community as a School Committee member. I will make myself available through email, text, and phone.
If elected, what will you do to help students, and their families learn about civic participation and voting?
I will work with administrators and teachers to ensure that civics continues to be an important part of the curriculum at our Quincy Public Schools. I fondly remember my children being encouraged to register to vote by their history teachers and helping them with that process.
There has been considerable public support for adding Lunar New Year to the school calendar as an official holiday, but the School Committee has voted against it for the third time in 2025. If you are elected and this proposal comes up for another vote, will you vote to add Lunar New Year as a school holiday?
