Why do you believe you are the best candidate to represent QPS families at this time?
As a parent with two kids in our schools, I am not only active in their school, I am also active in the community. I hear the concerns and opportunities from parents and teachers as a member of the PTO. As a scout leader, I interact with families in schools across Quincy.
What school and/or community activities do you participate in?
SouthWest Middle School PTO (Secretary 2023 - 2024, President 2024 - 2025, Vice President 2025 - 2026), Scouts, Multicultural Festival, Lunar New Year, August Moon, Memorial Day Parade, Flag Day Parade, Veterans Day Parade, Cleaner Greener, and others
What do you believe is the purpose of public education?
Prepare our children for their next stage in life, whether it is higher education (college, etc.), trades, or serving the country. To give them an understanding of life and prepare them for opportunities that may come up.
If elected, what will your top three priorities be for the Quincy Public Schools, and how will you implement them?
Chronic absenteeism - work with the School Committee, QPS Administration, and others to put together programs that help entice/encourage children and their families at attend school daily
School/Student Capacity - help advocate for additional buildings/schools to have the capacity to match the growth in population and students
Lunar New Year Discussion - advocate for a more detailed discussion on why or why it cannot be part of the school calendar
If elected, what steps will you take to ensure responsiveness and clear communication between you and the Quincy community?
Post and share information on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KaiLeeforSchoolCommittee
Offer Zoom/WebEx/etc. meetings
Respond to emails and inquiries
If elected, what will you do to help students, and their families learn about civic participation and voting?
Share my story on why I ran for elected office, how I did it, and encourage them to invite me to speak - in Scouts, one of the requirements is to meet an elected official - perhaps that is something that can be offered up as a guest speaker opportunity for all elected officials
There has been considerable public support for adding Lunar New Year to the school calendar as an official holiday, but the School Committee has voted against it for the third time in 2025. If you are elected and this proposal comes up for another vote, will you vote to add Lunar New Year as a school holiday?
Yes
